A server list describes equipment. An infrastructure brief describes the work that equipment must sustain. For compute, data-centre and AI-related discussions, a clear brief helps expose dependencies before a product becomes the centre of the project.
Describe the workload and its constraints
Explain the application, data flows, expected usage and the reason for a change. Separate current requirements from growth assumptions. Record where data enters, where it is processed and which systems need access. If the workload involves AI, describe the intended task and the software environment rather than assuming that one hardware category fits every workload.
Connect the platform to its surroundings
Review facility space, electrical supply, cooling, network connectivity and the people who will operate the platform. Ask which dependencies have been measured and which remain assumptions. Put installation, migration and ongoing maintenance into the discussion. A technically suitable component can still be difficult to deploy if its surrounding requirements are unresolved.
Assign security and recovery responsibilities
Define who approves access, applies updates, monitors incidents and restores data. NIST’s Cybersecurity Framework 2.0 offers a common language for cybersecurity risk discussions; citing it does not establish certification or implementation. For the project itself, turn broad intentions into named owners, procedures and evidence that can be reviewed.
Set acceptance criteria around real work
Choose tests that reflect the intended workload and its operational boundaries. Record the conditions under which results were obtained. Include handover documentation, recovery exercises where appropriate and the support boundary between vendors and the customer. Evaluate cost over the proposed operating period, including dependencies that fall outside the equipment quotation.
PLANNING TAKEAWAY
The useful output of early planning is an agreed workload, an operating model and a testable scope.
Black Rock Technology is the group’s infrastructure engineering focus. MyServer and MyDefender represent related fields in the brand family; their specific service scope should be discussed with MyGroup.
Sources & technical context
This guide supports early project discussions. It is general planning material, rather than a service quotation or a technical acceptance document.
